Michael Reagan, the eldest son of former US President Ronald Reagan, boasts a rich history as a renowned boat racer, dating back to the mid-1960s. Notable for his participation in iconic marathon races like the Colorado River Nine Hour Enduro and the Salton Sea 500, Reagan delves into his celebrated father's legacy and his own journey in powerboat racing in this episode.

Reagan highlights that his inaugural marathon race boat was crafted by Bob Patterson of Patterson Boats, marking the genesis of his racing career. This vessel, featuring a flat-bottom design, a V-drive, and a single overhead cam Ford engine from Holman and Moody, set the stage for Reagan's remarkable achievements.

In the early 1980s, Reagan partnered with Larry Smith, owner of Scarab boats, to organize endurance runs benefiting charitable causes. Notably, Reagan's "Assault on the Mississippi,” where he broke the record for the 1,027-mile trip from New Orleans to St. Louis, raised $500,000 for the US Olympic Committee. Much of the success of the 25 hour run could be attributed to corporate sponsors Bud Light, W.R. Grace, Descente clothing, and Justice Brothers. Reagan’s 38 ft. Scarab was equipped with three newly released 430hp V-8 Evinrudes.

Transitioning from his roles as a conservative radio talk show host, bestselling author, and political speaker, Reagan now leads the Reagan Legacy Foundation. Established to honor his father's accomplishments and promote global appreciation for freedom and liberty, the foundation embodies Reagan's commitment to his father's enduring legacy.
