Shane Westerfield: Versatile Racer and Owner of Westerfield Motorsports
Shane Westerfield is a skilled and accomplished racer with an extensive background in both drag boat racing and car racing. Together with his father, Steve, Shane owns Westerfield Motorsports, a leading shop that specializes in supercharged engines, high-performance components, and custom flat bottom boats.

A 15-Year Drag Racing Career
Westerfield’s journey in drag racing began over 15 years ago when he started assisting his father with his Top Alcohol flat bottom boat. His hard work and dedication paid off in 2017, when he achieved the pinnacle of his career by winning the NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car World Championship. Today, Westerfield, who has 14 NHRA national event wins, continues to excel with the alcohol car, spending the last five seasons with Rick Jackson Motorsports. He has also recently taken on the challenge of driving Bucky Austin’s AA/Funny Car and secured wins in the team’s first two races.

Passion for Blown Gas flat bottom Boat Racing
Although Shane has found considerable success in car racing, his deepest passion lies in Blown Gas flat bottom boat racing with the National Jet Boat Association (NJBA) and Columbia Drag Boat Association (CDBA). As one of the last remaining "heads-up" drag boat classes, Westerfield is dedicated to keeping the sport competitive and thriving. He has played a key role in streamlining the class rules and securing sponsorships to boost prize money, ensuring the longevity and growth of this racing category.

Overcoming Business Challenges
In this episode, Westerfield discusses the difficulties he and his father faced when they had to close their family’s trade show exhibit company due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, this setback opened new doors for them. They decided to focus on their side project—working on boats and engines. What started as a hobby eventually turned into a full-time business.

Today, Westerfield Motorsports is known for its one-of-a-kind custom work and has become a top destination in the fast-boat community.
