In this episode of Powerboat Talk, we sit down with Duff Daily, a circle boat racing legend with over 50 years of experience. Daily recently won his class for the first time ever at the Parker Enduro, where his son Dustin was his co-driver. Besides his duties in the GN class, Daily, a retired Miami fireman, also still competes today, at the age of 69, in a 150 mph K-boat "War Eagle."
Since he began driving at the age of 16, Daily has won 26 National Championships, 19 World Championships, and has set 20 world records, at least four of which still stand today including the KRR 1/4 mile straightaway mark of 152.93 mph. Standout victories for Daily include the iconic Mike Gordon 100 Mile Marathon that was run annually at historic Miami Marine Stadium. Starting with his first victory in 1970 at the age of 18, Daily won the Mike Gordon GN race eight years in a row and nine out of the 12 times he entered. Daily was undefeated in the GN class for seven years from 1973-1979 and he was an APBA Hall of Champions Recipient eight times.
